Hurricane season and a Catamaran trip
Sunday some friends and I went to the Maya museum. I met a Dutch girl who is an au pair here in Cancun and another Dutch girl from NHTV who is here for an internship, the world is so small! The museum was okay nothing too special. Afterwards we went to one of my favourite food places; Chedraui Select. The fancy supermarket where you could eat. We stayed there for ages talking while enjoying a hot drink and something to eat. We then waited like half an hour for the bus hiding in my garbage bag. We proceeded to our second home; Plaza Las Americas where we walked around for a while and did some groceries. I bought guayaba to make the juice like in Cuba but to my surprise when I cut it, it was yellow, not pink. Tasted quite the same but I have no idea how to make the juice aah.
Monday we left our house to go to uni. It usually is still light but this time it was already quite dark we looked up the sky and got so scared. On the right it was dark blue but when you looked right it was like this dark black tunnel of clouds. I just started fast walking but then out of nowhere it started raining so much and there was no hiding place. I stood in between some plants but that did not really help. We got to uni completely soaked. When I got home I walked to my room and almost fell because the whole floor was wet because the air-conditioning and ceiling were leaking. When I went into my room the floor was also wet and also my desk and all my stuff near the window. Turns out that after a week of rain it just started raining through my window. Amazing. A few minutes later we got a message that all classes from all schools were cancelled because of the rain. So many streets were flooded it was crazy!
So Tuesday we had no classes but the funny thing was, that after 1 week of non-stop rain and clouds there was sun and a blue sky hahaha. We decided to get out of the house with a friend and we stopped for lunch first. We went to ‘Las Palapas’ the place I went to in my first week with a lot of street food. We had some amazing empanadas and then I tried the most delicious dessert called ‘Marquesitas’. They basically make a flat waffle cone and then put whatever topping you want on it. I chose Nutella although a lot of people eat it with Nutella and…. Cheese. Anyhow then they roll it up and put some extra on it. I think I died and went to heaven. After that we went to play mini golf! It was in a dark room with all these glow in the dark colours, I came second. When we were finished we were very close to the best French café in Cancun called; Antoinette. We sat down to have some macarons and real French bread. Missed it so much! We went to kill some time at Walmart and then at 20.30 we had a food date with some friends to eat sushi! I don’t really like it but I am creating a taste for it. It was actually so good! When we finished we went home and watched some Harry Potter because why not.
Thursday we went to school in again the fullest bus ever, as every Tuesday and Thursday. And by full I mean; people almost hanging from the doors full. But that is no problem here. Holding onto my laptop with one hand and with the other holding on to the pole trying not to fall over is quite a challenge. Also because the bus drivers have no problem racing on the high way and driving through rough sandy ways. Then we had to wait 10 minutes in the sun (yes, it’s back!) to cross the street. Then to find out that everybody somehow knew there was no class except for us foreigners. Great.
On Saturday we did our first boat trip on a Catamaran! With a big group of friends and some other people we spent the day on the clear blue ocean of Cancun. There was music playing and an open bar. More like a party boat haha. On our way to Isla Mujeres (the island in front of Cancun) we stopped halfway to go snorkelling! The sea was quite rough so the current was really strong! They fed the fish so you were literally swimming between them. A group of maybe a 100 yellow and striped fishes swam around you to grab the food, so beautiful! Even though I am scared of them I couldn’t resist taking a dive through the group of fish, magical. We then continued to Isla Mujeres where we had 2 hours of free time to walk around, visit the shops and beaches etc. There was a real different vibe there, like an island vibe. So many palm trees and everybody was driving golf karts or bikes. After a while there we went back on the boat back to Cancun. The boat had like two sails at the front where you could lie down on but because the sea was so rough everybody kept being splashes by the high waves haha! That night we all went out together to a nice club. Only I had a rough start as I entered with a box of chicken nuggets (not hiding it whatsoever) and a few moments later someone from the club asked me to follow him. I quickly ate my last chicken pieces as I thought he wanted me to throw it away. As I walked to the garbage bin he did the opposite and told me that I had to leave. The manager just kicked me out of the club for ‘sneaking food in’, what! He was so mean haha… I waited for like an hour waiting for my friends to find me and then luckily some other people knew the manager and let me back in after a lot of discussions. I even got a free drink haha!
